Bus Driver – Social Support Group – Rural and Remote Home Care Service

Rural and Remote Home Care Service is a Home Support Program funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and the State Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors.
We aim to maintain and promote independence and quality of life for the frail aged, younger people with disabilities and carers, by providing a flexible variety of services to meet each person’s unique set of circumstances.

We are seeking a suitably qualified and/or experienced person to fill the position of Bus Driver – Social Support Group with this program.

Job Summary
This is a casual position for 9 hours per fortnight to be worked every alternate Friday as per the Rural and Remote Home Care Service Social Support Program Calendar.
This position is based in Ravenshoe and is paid in accordance with the Passenger Vehicle Transportation Award 2010 – Grade 3 (less than 25 seats) at a rate of $28.46 per hour. Hours of work: 7.30am to 5pm (includes half hour unpaid lunch break).
The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to working with frail aged and younger people with disabilities and some prior experience in this field of work is an advantage.
Experienced in driving buses or similar large vehicles and towing, reversing, parking with a trailer.
Current LR licence and Industry Authority Card from the Department of Transport.
Current National Police Check.
Current First Aid and CPR certificate an advantage (you will be paid a first aid allowance if certification is maintained).
Duties and Essential Job Functions
This position is responsible to the RnR Program Manager and will work under the general direction of the Social Support Group Assistant during scheduled bus trips.
It is the primary responsibility of the Bus Driver to ensure the safety of clients, staff and volunteers by obeying road rules, following designated route/s and adhering to pick-up and drop off schedules.
The driver is also responsible for assessing, reporting and managing any vehicular risks by completing the necessary pre-start, checklists and mileage forms and alerting the Social Support Group Assistant immediately of any concerns throughout the journey.

Other duties and Responsibilities
• The driver will assist staff and volunteers to load and safely secure client’s items and if required, assist with clients embarking and disembarking the bus.
• The driver will ensure the bus departs Atherton by 2pm at the latest to allow sufficient time for the return journey to Ravenshoe.
• Upon return the bus is to be refueled to a full tank.
• Return odometer reading noted.
• The driver is responsible for cleaning the bus inside and out upon return to 17 Moore Street, Ravenshoe. All rubbish is to be removed and the bus left in a clean and tidy state.

Any WH&S paperwork completed and submitted to the Social Support Group Assistant prior to finishing.
