Free Redress Support for People with Disability
Hello,
We know it’s been a particularly difficult time during this COVID-19 crisis, and services like yours have been working hard to support the people in your communities. During this time, we want to make sure people with disability are receiving the support they need.
We’re offering free support and information for people with disability who may want to access or apply for the National Redress Scheme. Our website offers more information.
• The National Redress Scheme was in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in December 2017.
• The Scheme was created to acknowledge and recognise the sexual abuse that many people, including people with disability, experienced as children in institutions.
• Applications can be lodged until 30 June 2027.
People with Disability Australia is offering free support to people with disability who want to access and make an application to the Scheme.
PWDA can provide people with disability information to help understand the Redress Scheme, what their rights are, and how their personal information will be shared in the application process.
Redress is made up of three parts. People can apply for:
• A payment- this is a monetary payment to acknowledge the seriousness of the hurt experienced.
• Counselling- this includes different forms of psychological counselling and support.
• An apology- If asked for by the survivor, a personal response, like an apology, from the responsible institution.
If you would like more information, or known someone who would benefit from this support please contact us via our Wayfinder Hub:
